I believe that complex problems, especially those in education, can't be solved by one person, using one disciplinary lens, and one method of inquiry. Research is truly impactful when its collaborative, interdisciplinary, participatory and pluralistic.
I created a collaborative lab to give students the opportunity to work in relational networks with seasoned research faculty on inquiry projects that speak to the student's research interests. Students also work with their peers in an effort to model real-world research teams they can expect to work in when they finish their degree.
Lab members are required to participate in weekly research communities with faculty and peers as well and/or professional development opportunities that further develop their skills in research, writing, presentation, publication, job searching, etc. Members are also expected to be active members in sharing their experiences thru the research blog and public scholarship venues.
